• In 2018, the state of Kerala was struck by the cyclone Ockhi, which caused heavy rainfall in the coastal as well as inland areas of Kerala. This heavy rainfall resulted in flooding of various towns and cities of Kerala.
• The National Disaster Relief Teams were sent in affected areas to carry out the rescue operations. But, the teams were not able to help everyone because of large numbers of people who were affected by flooding.
• For the relief, then came forward a group of fishermen, who then arranged the help of nearly 1200 members of the fishermen community who then arranged nearly 600 boats to rescue people out of their flooded homes.
• This group of extraordinary people was called the Sons of the Sea, by the media and the people alike. They were also called the Superheroes of the Oceans.
• Together they were able to save hundreds of people from the flooded areas and this group was able to make us believe that humanity is not lost from the planet and we can still live and support each other at the time of need.
