let at present mother's age =x yrs
kevins age= x/3 years

6years ago
mother age=(x-6) years
kevins age = (x/3 - 6) years
given
5(x/3 -6)=(x-6)
5(x-18)/3=(x-6)
5x-90=3(x-6)
5x-90=3x-18
5x-3x=90-18
2x=72
x=72/2
x=36
therefore
at present
mother's age=x=36 years
kevins age =x/3=36/3=12 years

\bf{\Large{\underline{\sf{\pink{Given\::}}}}}

Kevin's present age is one - third his mother's present age. If the mother's age was five times his age 6 years ago.

\bf{\Large{\underline{\sf{\red{To\:find\::}}}}}

Their present ages.

\bf{\Large{\underline{\sf{\blue{Explanation\::}}}}}

Let the age of kevin's mother be R

Let the age of Kevin's be \bf{\frac{1}{3} R}

  • \bf{\Large{\underline{\bf{\orange{Six\:years\:Ago\::}}}}}

Kevin's mother age is (R - 6) years

Kevin's age is ({\frac{1}{3} R-6})years

According to the question:

\bf{(R-6)=5(\frac{1}{3} R-6)}

\bf{(R-6)=5(\frac{R-18}{3} )}

\bf{(R-6)=(\frac{5R-90}{3} )}

→ 3R - 18 = 5R - 90

→ 3R - 5R = -90 + 18

→ -2R = -72

→ R = \bf{\cancel{\frac{-72}{-2} }}

→ R = 36 years

Thus,

The present age of kevin's mother is 36 years.

The resent age of kevin's is \bf{\cancel{\frac{36}{3}}} = 12 years.
