To get an optimum yield, it is instructed to use a balanced combination of manures and fertilizers in the soil.

खेतों में खाद तथा उर्वरक का उपयोग इसलिए करते हैं क्योंकि  मृदा में पोषकों और जैव पदार्थ के अभावों को पूरा करने के लिए ।

• खाद और उर्वरक दोनों ही पौधों के पोषकों के प्रमुख स्रोत हैं इसलिए उन्हें फसल उत्पादन में प्रयोग किया जाता है। खाद्य मृदा में ह्यूमस को बढ़ाती है। जैव खादें मृदा के भौतिक गुणों को सुधारने, मृदा अपरदन कम करने में, मृदा की आद्रता धारण करने की क्षमता बढ़ाने में सहायता करती हैं।  

• उर्वरक मृदा को विशेष रूप से नाइट्रोजन ,फास्फोरस ,पोटेशियम प्रदान करते हैं। यह पेड़ पौधों की वृद्धि के लिए उपयोग किए जाते हैं।
