- When HBr is added to unsymmetrical alkene in presence of peroxide, H-atom bonds with C-atom having least no of hydrogen atoms on it.
- This reaction is shown by only unsymmetrical alkenes.
- aka Anti-Markovnikov's rule
- As pent-1-ene is unsymmetrical alkene, it demonstrates Kharasch effect forming 1-bromopent-1-ene.
CH3-CH2-CH2-CH=CH2 + HBr ---> CH3-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-Br
