The phrase 'followed by' is used to show that something follows after something else. It shows that one thing comes after another.

Examples: The partition of Bengal was followed by rebellion by Indians.

Jahangir was followed by Akbar.

The phrase 'preceded by' is the opposite of 'followed by' where it shows something comes before something else.

Example: In a race, the person in 1st position is preceded by the person in 2nd position.

Respect is preceded by loyalty.

I'll explain it through an example

There are 3 girls standing in a queue infront of a canteen counter.

The first one from the counter is Shera.

The second one is Riya

And the third one is Priya

So here, Riya is followed by Priya.

And Riya is preceded by Shreya.

Another eg:(my fav)

It's a cricket match...

The Indian team is getting ready to smash out the opponent

So...

the opener is Rohit Sharma

And the second one is Shikhar Dhawan

And the third is Virat Kohli

Here I can say that Shikhar Dhawan is followed by Virat Kohli.

and

Shikhar Dhawan is preceded by Rohit Sharma.

Also I can say that Shikhar Dhawan is succeeded by Virat Kohli(u can also use succeeded by instead of followed by)
