Question:

  • An object is placed at a distance of 0.5m from a concave lens of focal length 0.2m. Find the nature and position of the image.

Answer:

The nature of the image is:

  1. Virtual
  2. Erect
  3. Smaller than the object

Reason:

Whatever distance or it is close to the concave lens, a concave lens always forms an image which is virtual, erect and smaller than the object.

Changing the position of the object only changes the size of the image. But, the image is smaller than the object in every case.

We can never get a real and inverted image with a concave lens. We can also not obtain an magnified image of the object.

Uses of Concave Lens:

  1. Concave Lens are used in making spectacles.
  2. Concave Lens are used in making telescopes.
  3. Concave Lens are used in the 'peep holes' in the doors used to see the image of the person standing outside.
