Theorem:

Tangent to a circle is perpendicular to the radius through the point of contact

Proof:

AB is a tangent to a circle with centre O and the tangent AB meets the circle at the point of contact P.

We need to prove that OP is perpendicular to AB.

Let us assume that OP is not perpendicular to AB.

Draw a line from OB' to AB , the line OB' meets the circle at the P'.

We are able to find that OP' is larger than OP.

= OP is perpendicular to AB

Hence it is proved .
