The energy of an object or a body due to its motion is called kinetic energy. For example, a running man, a running car, a flying bird, a moving cricket ball, a falling stone, all possesses kinetic energy. In fact, every object around us which is moving possesses kinetic energy.
Whereas, the stored energy of an object or a body due to its position or change in shape is called potential energy. For example, the stretched bow, a car parking on the top of the hill, a brick lying on the roof of a house, a stretched rubber band and spring, all possesses potential energy.
