After the demise of Kittur Rani Chennamma`s husband  in 1824, the entire state was in a state of volatility. She had a son to look after too. Her son soon died in 1824 which left an uphill task for the Rani to save the state of Kittur from the hands of Birtish. It was only after the demise of her husband and son she went for adoption of Shivalingappa.
