Koderma district and the Lokai-Indarwa area covers the Southern part of Great Mica belt of Jharkhand. Previously the Mica belt was known as the Bihar Mica belt which extends for a distance of 160 km having an average width of 25 km. Once upon a time koderma was famous for its mica production in the world and the district was known as 'Abhrakh Nagari'. Koderma, in Jharkhand, is the leading producer of (b) mica.

This district is blessed with many natural resources. Mica is one of these resources. The Koderma Mica belt was considered to be the largest producer of ruby mica in the world. It is for this reason that the district was referred to as the mica capital of India at one point of time.

At present, Koderma is the quickest developing area in the state.
