Krishnadevaraya of the Tuluva dynasty, ruled the vast Vijayanagara empire in South Central India, during 1509 – 1529 and he was considered the most powerful ruler of peninsular India. Mughal emperor Babur, who was setting up the Mughal kingdom in North, was wary of Krishnadevaraya, because of the powerful stature of the Vijayanagara kingdom at that time.

Krishnadevaraya had defeated the Sultans of Bijapur, Golconda, the Bahmanis to consolidate his position in South India.
