Given :- Kumud read 6/11 th of a book in 1 st week and 3/8th of the remaining book in 2nd week. If there were 175 pages unread after 2nd week, how many pages were there in the book ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, there were x pages in the book .

given that,

→ in first week kumud read = (6/11)th of total pages = (6/11) * x = (6x/11)

then,

→ pages left after one week = x - (6x/11) = (5x/11) pages .

now, given that,

→ in second week he read = (3/8)th of the remaining = (3/8) of (5x/11) = (15x/88) pages .

then,

→ pages left after second week = (5x/11) - (15x/88) = (40x - 15x)/88 = (25x/88) pages .

therefore,

→ (25x/88) = 175 pages .

→ x = (175 * 88)/25

→ x = 616 pages . (Ans.)

Hence, there were 616 pages in the book .
