Explanation:

Introduction

The problem of child labor is becoming a challenge before our country. The government has taken several steps to deal with this problem. Given the detail and severity of the problem, it is being considered as a socio-economic problem which is related to lack of consciousness, poverty and illiteracy. To solve this problem, collective efforts have to be made by all sections of the society.

In the year 1979, the Government of India had constituted 'Gurupad Swami Samiti' to suggest measures for the welfare of child labor and to get rid of it. The committee studied the problem in detail and presented its recommendations. They saw that it would not be possible to remove child labor till poverty remains in place. Therefore, restricting this issue by law will not be a practical solution. In such a situation, the committee suggested that there should be a ban on child labor in hazardous areas and improvement in the level of work in other areas. The Committee also recommended that a multi-dimensional policy need to be made to resolve the problems of working children.

Based on the recommendations of 'Gurupad Swami Samiti', the Child Labor (Regulation and Regulation) Act was enforced in 1986. This act prohibits the employment of children in certain specialized hazardous occupations and processes and the conditions of the work for the other classes were determined. Under this law, the list of risky occupations and processes is being expanded on the basis of the Child Labor Technical Advisory Committee.

In the context of the harmony of the above approach, the National Child Labor Policy was prepared in the year 1987. Under this policy, the need to focus on the rehabilitation work of children working in risky business and processes has been shown.

Due to child labor

According to UNICEF children are employed because they can easily be exploited. Generally poverty is the first of all the reasons children work hard for their age. But in spite of this, population explosion, cheap labor, not applicable to available laws, reluctant parents (they are willing to send their children to work instead of school, to increase the family income), reluctant to send children to school There are other reasons too. And if the only basis for the maintenance of a family is child labor, then what can anybody do?

Efforts to eradicate child labor

76 Child Labor Projects have been approved for the addition of 1.50 lakh children under the National Child Labor Project Program for the Elimination of Child Labor. About 1.05 lakh children have been enrolled in special schools. The Labor Ministry has asked the Planning Commission to present all 600 districts of the country instead of 250 districts in the National Child Labor Project, to give Rs. 1500 crores. 57 Children working in hazardous industries, dhabas and homes (9-14 years of age) will be brought under this project. Government schemes like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan are also being implemented.
