Yes, electromagnets have poles if they are constructed in the usual way as a coil of wire. The Direction of the poles is perpendicular to the planes of the loops of wire. A straight segment of wire also has a magnetic field when current flows. This magnetic field forms a circle around the wire, so it has no poles.
