Find the cost of the bill without VAT:

100 + 5 = 105%

105% = 1450

1% = 1450/105

100% = 1450/105 x 100 = Rs 1380.95

Find the price after discount:

Discount = 8% x Rs 1380.95 = 0.08 x 1380.95 = Rs 110.48

1380.95 - 110.48 = Rs 1270.47

Find the price with VAT:

5% VAT = 5% x 1270.47 = 0.05 x  1270.47 = Rs 63.52

1270.47 + 63.52 = Rs 1334

Answer: She needs to pay the hotel Rs 1334

subbu30: no bro the answer must be rupees 1334
TooFree: sorry, forgot to edit my last statement when I was checking through. The rest of the work is correct.
PADMINI: @toofree 1380.95 - 110.48 = 1270.47 not 1279.47 and adding 1270.47 + 63.52 = 1334.
TooFree: Thank you. I will look for someone to give me an edit.
PADMINI: yup , welcome.
TooFree: Apology to @subbu30, did not quite get it when you said the answer was different - I read 1334 and 1344 as the same :( .

Thank you @knowledgeseekar for taking the trouble to look through the work and highlighting the exact error .. :)

Edited my answer already.
PADMINI: welcome @toofree.
