Memories of childhood chapter contain two extracts from the lives of two different women Zit kala-sa and Bama.

In the first extract "The cutting of long hairs "the protagonist Zit kala-sa is the victim of racial discrimination. However due to weight ,in America, she didn't get respect, dignity, and honour in school. She is forced to shingle out her long hair .She struggle and resist but atlast, she dragged like an animal. In this "land of apples"refers to a place of school where Zitikala-sa attended. The biblical presentation of fruit here can represent as the referred to loss of native in order to take the fruit of knowledge. Here Apple is referred to as forbidden fruit of knowledge. As in the biblical presentation where Adam and Eve were partaking the forbidden fruit of knowledge,it led to their banishment.
