Answer:

watershed of Sikkim Himalaya. Information were collected on land resources, farmers’ socio-economic condition, land use, existing farming systems, and personal experience in different land use types from 150 randomly sampled farm households using a structured questionnaire, group discussions, key informant interviews and field observations during 2009-10 from the selected watershed. Different types of land use/cover patterns have been identified and farmers have adopted several types of farming practices as adaptation to climate change in the watershed. Agro-forestry, horticulture, floriculture and animal husbandry is widely practiced by the farmers to conserve the natural resources during agricultural production along with a particular type of land use/cover. It helps in harmonising environmental sustainability and economic profitability. The analysis and findings of the study have important policy implications for the sustainable land use/cover in the Sikkim Himalaya.
