Rapid urbanization leads to exertion of a lot pressure on the already limited resources. While on the other hand, by definition sustainable development is where economic growth and development is carried out in a manner that environmental resources are not depleted. In large scale urbanization, it gets very difficult to sustain the ever growing industries without eventually leading to depletion of the natural resources. The statement illustrates this point in noting that large scale urbanization is inversely proportional to sustainable development.
