Lateral roots contributes in the formation of root architecture. It originates from the deep parental root. The breaking of new primordia results in the formation of lateral roots and Auxin is a hormone that boost this growth

The lateral root present in the higher plant starts to develop in the pericycle (parenchyma tissue).

The pericycle (parenchyma tissue) is the outermost layer found in the vascular cylinder. The vascular cylinder is made up off phloem and xylem which can be found located in the center of the root.
