Latitudinal and longitudinal extension of India is 30°,then explain why is the north south extent is bigger than the east west extent

Lines of latitude are equi-distant, while lines of longitude are not. So though N-S extent of Indian Mainland is 3214 km and W-S distance is less , i.e, 2933 km, latitudinal and longitudinal difference is almost the same.
