Latitudinal and longitudinal extent of India has a difference of approximately 30 degrees ,but the latitudinal extent appears to be longer as compared to longitudinal extent. How??

The latitudinal and longitudinal extent of India is almost the same degrees. i.e 30 degrees. But the north south distance in Kilometers is 3214 and the east west distance is 2933 km. This is because of the nature of the latitudes and the longitudes.
