Another ending to the story can be written as follows.

Leacock was perturbed that he will have to keep his money all the while in the bank while he will not have any money with him.

So, he decided instead to make a fixed-deposit in the bank so that his money can work for him while he could not enjoy it anymore.

He went to the bank and asked for a fixed-deposit plan.

The accountant informed him of different plans and he chose one accordingly.

Now, he was all happy for his efforts.
