In English grammer there are 4 types of sentence those are :-

  • Assertive/ Declarative sentence:-

=> These sentence can be called as assertive or Declarative sentence both. Basically these sentence show a feeling, opinion, incident,event,etc.

=> These can be written as both negetive or positive.

  • Imperitive sentence:-

=> These are also known as command sentence. This sentence is used in the case of command, instructions, or making a request or offer.

=> They can also be in negetive or positive both.

  • Interrogative sentence:-

=> These sentence asks a question. In this sentence the first person asks a question, which always ends with a question mark (?).

  • Exclamatory sentence:-

=> This sentence depicts strong emotions or feelings of a person. Exclamatory mark can be out anywhere here, at the Beginning or at the end.

There are five kinds of Sentences.

1. Assertive (or Declarative) Sentence

  • Assertive (or Declarative) Sentence

A sentence that makes a statement or an assertion is called a Assertive or Declarative

  • An Assertive Sentence states facts, describes things or reports events in an affirmative Sentence(positive) way or a negative way. In other words, a sentence of this kind can either be Affirmative or Negative.

Examples-

  1. The earth moves round the sun. (Affirmative)
  2. Don't laugh at the beggar. ( Negative )

  • We use a Full stop ( . ) at the end of an assertive sentence

  • Interrogative Sentence (Question)

A sentence that asks a question is called an Interrogative Sentence

Examples-

a. Who is your father?

b. Why did you laugh at him?

  • We use a Mark of Interrogation (?) at the end of an Interrogative Sentence.

  • . Imperative Sentence (Command)

A sentence that expresses a request, an order (or command), an advice or an instruction is called an Imperative Sentence

Examples,

a.Please tell me the way to the airport. (request)

b. Close the door. (order)

  • An Imperative Sentence also ends with a Full Stop ( . ).

  • Exclamatory sentence

A sentence that expresses a strong or sudden feeling such as joy, sorrow, surprise, wonder, etc. is called an Exclamatory Sentence

Examples-

a. Hurrah! We have won the match.(joy)

b. Alas! He is no more,(sorrow)

  • We use a Mark of Exclamation (!) at the end of an Exclamatory Sentence.

  • Optative Sentence

A sentence that expresses a wish or prayer is called an Optative Sentence

Examples-

a. May you live long!

b. May God help you!

  • An Optative Sentence also ends with a Mark of Exclamation (!).
