The first morning of the shoot, the crew had set up base at the fort and Satyajit Ray was busy at his work behind the camera. At around 10 a.m. the Maharaja came to inspect them. He looked around and seemed rather pleased. But as the sun grew hotter, he went back to his jeep which was parked at a distance. Satyajit Ray also resumed his focus back to the camels. Soon he heard a lot of chatter and noise in the background and found a crowd had gathered to see the shoot and to meet the Maharaja. Satyajit Ray's assistants cupped their hands over their mouth and started shouting to drive away the onlookers. They walked off reluctantly. Maharaja also left after a while but Satyajit Ray and his crew kept shooting until 06:30 in the evening since it was summer and the days were long.
