Let the mass of electron is two times, mass of
proton is 1/4th and mass of neutron is 3/2 of
original mass. Then, the atomic weight of 6C
atom
(1) Increases by 37.5%
(2) Decreases by 87.5 %
(3) Decreases by 12.5 %
(4) Remains same

Answer:

The naswer is option 3.

Decreases by 12.5 %

Explanation:

12 C 6

number of proton= 6

number of neutron = 6

mass of proton = 6 amu

mass of neutron = 6 amu

total mass = 6 + 6= 12

now the mass of neutron is 3/2 so,= 3/2*6 = 9

the mass of proton is 1/4 = 6 x1/4= 3/2

new mass = 9 + 3/2= 21/2 amu = 10.5

% of decrease in mass= 12 -10.5/12 x 100

= 12.5 %

Thus the atomic weight decreases by 12.5%
