LETTER
decades after India's Independence, about 35% women are still illiterate. Being
illiterate, mothers cannot look after their families well and don't understand tu
ter their families well and don't understand the financial and social
affairs. This has its impact on the population, health, sanitation and economy of the country as
they cannot play an active role. Literacy among women is more important than men.

Subject: Need to Educate Women

Sir:

I am writing this letter to share my views about Need to Educate Women. The illiteracy rate among women is quite high at 35 %. With such a huge percentage of women being illiterate, our nation can’t hope to achieve its developmental goals.

There is a famous saying ‘If you educate a man you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman you educate a family (nation).’ An educated and literate woman ensures an educated family. An educated woman ensures proper health and hygiene of her family.

Many factors such as poverty, ignorance, traditions, superstitions, male dominated society, dowry system, etc. did not let our nation’s women to be 100 % literate.

Through the medium of your esteemed daily I want to appeal to the people and the concerned authorities to take more proactive approach to ensure 100 % literacy of women. The Government should make education for girls totally free in rural and backward areas. People in these areas should be made aware of importance of girls’ education. In urban areas the enrolment of girls should be encouraged by providing them facilities such as low tuition fee, free books, and other incentives. Kindly give my views some space in your esteemed daily.

Yours truly,

Kavita Sharma
