Dear Sir,
I am writing to you on behalf of the entire student community regarding the increasing number of accidents of roads resulting in deaths. Apart from other citizens, a number of young students are involved in these unfortunate accidents shocking parents and teachers and creating waves of horror among the student community.
Our government and other authorities concerned are seriously concerned over this matter. They are taking the necessary steps to make the roads as safe possible. The municipal and civic authorities are also taking various steps to reduce the incidence of road accidents.
It is worth appreciating that the traffic authorities have stepped up their efforts in providing safety education to the public. They are also organizing safety weeks from time to time making the public aware of rules and regulations relating to safety on the roads. In addition, I would like to suggest that regular training programmes should be organized by the authorities concerned and the owners of different types of vehicles should be asked to participate in such programmes in different batches and localities.
I shall be grateful if you put across this suggestion through the columns of your esteemed newspaper.
Thanking you,
Yours truly,

Sir,
Subject: Road safety
I am a regular reader of your newspaper and wish to use the columns of your esteemed daily to bring to the notice of the public and the authorities the urgent need for road safety.
Young drivers enjoy driving at fast speed and often flaunt rules and regulations.
They get an adrenaline rush by driving beyond the speed limit and claim it is exciting and thrilling.
But, it is extremely dangerous as the roads are crowded, there is much less control of the vehicle at great speed and there are greater chances of accidents.
We must follow traffic rules, it is always better to be safe than sorry.
At times, people drive very fast under the influence of alcohol and this must be avoided at all costs. Pedestrians must cross only at zebra crossing and drivers need to give right of way to them.
At the traffic lights, drivers need to park vehicles behind the 'Stop' sign.
They must ensure their vehicle's indicator lights are working and the horn is heard clearly.
Traffic police has to impose fines strictly on offenders: people driving without helmets or without using seat belts should be checked.
I hope that the public will realise the importance of road safety and the authorities will take more measures to check offenders.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Yours faithfully,
ABC
