Sub: Harmful effects of wrestling shows on TV.

Sir:

I write to you to express my deep concern over the problem of adverse effects of wrestling shows on the development of young children. There has been a spate of violent incidents involving very young children in the country. The teenagers these days resort to violent means so often. Even for the simplest of problems and challenges, they use violence. I just wonder at the paradox. Mahatma Gandhi gave the world the philosophy of non-violence; and our own children are becoming so violent.

The most worrisome aspect is they don't try to settle their conflicts and issues peacefully. Even at home they exhibit aggression on an issue with their siblings or parents. They vent out their hurt, differences, and opinions through shouts or by kicking. The elders, especially the parents are quite concerned about the implications of their aggression. Nor are they ready to listen to the advice of the elders, brushing it aside as lectures or mere preaching.

The experts on adolescence psychology ascribe their violence and aggression to the influence of so many factors. Internet, TV and violent video games are the main causes behind this rising violence. Violent wrestling TV programs such as WWE Monday Night Raw, WWE NXT, WWE Main Event, and WWE Superstars are doing the real damage. After watching these programs children copy them in their real life. They fight mock wrestlings with their own siblings and friends which lead to serious injuries at times.

Through the medium of your esteemed daily, I appeal to the TV regulatory ministry and other concerned authorities to look into the matter and take appropriate steps to ban channels which promote violence among the children. I shall be grateful to you for helping me convey my concern through the columns of your esteemed daily.

Thanking you,

Yours truly,

Gibran Josh
