Sub: Lavish wastage of food at weddings
Sir:
As a concerned citizen I write to you to express my shock over the people and
Government's apathy and indifference to the problem of extravagant wastage of
food in our country where a majority of the people don’t get a square meal
everyday!
Our country is the country of paradoxes. On one hand the government
has launched 'Save Food Campaign'; on the other hand it is turning blind eye to
the large scale wastage of food in the name of ostentatious weddings, parties,
and other celebrations. I just wonder at the attitude of our Government and
people. Millions of Indians are starving. Still there is no action against this
colossal food wastage!
Last week I got an opportunity
to attend a wedding. It was such a glamorous wedding. There was a whole range
of foods and eatable items. Most of the people were just throwing half eaten
delicacies into dustbins I was shocked to see such wastage. I thought if one
wedding was consuming so much food, how much food must have been wasted all
across the country at weddings taking place nationwide! I was reminded of the
food shortage and millions of starving beggars, and poor people in our nation.
The food shortage problem can be solved by government's intervention. The government must make food wastage regulatory policy at marriage palaces and wedding resorts. I appeal to the concerned ministry through the esteemed columns of your daily to look into it. I also appeal to people to pay heed to wise consumption of food items at weddings.
Yours truly,
