Dear Grandma and Grandpa

I hope this letter finds both of you in soaring spirits. I am writing to share with you my experience about a lecture that I got an opportunity to attend last week. A very learned professor, Mr.Pruthi Desai visited our school to give us a talk on ‘Casteism: Its Relevance in Modern India’. Attendance for the senior classes was mandatory. Expecting it to be quite boring, I went to the auditorium with biased intentions.

As the learned professor started to speak, all my bias was cleared. He had brought along very engrossing audio and visual data related to the lecture. He explained how the casteism was created by Rishi Manu in the ancient times, when it was required for the proper functioning of the society. Then he dwelt upon how with the passage of time it became infected and corrupted with ill-practices and thoughtless traditions. He also enumerated upon the damage it did to our country’s development and prosperity.

In the last section, he explained to the audience the futility and irrelevance of casteism in the contemporary times. He also appealed to us not to treat one another on the basis of caste. He clearly stated that if India has to develop faster, all people must believe in one caste only─the caste of being Indian.

I really liked the lecture a lot. While I was hearing the professor’s views, I remembered both of you who have always taught me similar values. Thanks for being my so wonderful teachers! I am coming next week to meet you. Tons of love to both of you.

Your loving grandson
