Lichens are the organisms that are formed by the symbiotic relationship or association of the fungus and the green algae or cyanobacteria. The algae produces food for fungi and itself whereas fungi helps in attachment and absorption of nutrients from substrate. They are slow-growing and typically forms a low crust-like or leaf-like branching growth on rocks, walls, and trees. For example, most of the fungi of group ascomycota form association with algae of groups like cyanobacteria, chlorophyta etc.

Explanation:

Lichens are a complex organism which is a symbiotic association between two separate organisms they are namely fungus and algae.

Out of these two associations, the dominant partner is the fungus, therefore, the majority feature of lichens have fungus characteristics. Lichens are often called as symbiotic algae and fungus associations. The algae are autotrophic, which are preparing their own food. And while the fungi are heterotrophic, it depends on other organic substances.

Most characteristics feature of lichen are reassembles to fungi therefore, it is a Heterotrophic.
