Lichens are called pioneer colonizers of bare rock. How can they help im soil formation ?

they enrich the soil by trapping water, dust and slit .When lichens die they contribute in organic matter to the soil improving the soil so that so that other plants can grow there.

Lichens are grow in rocks and die or decompose after some time and developed into soil and in that soil plants grow and its roots go under neath the rock and break down the rock in very small particle called soil.
