Life cycle of Ectocarpus and Fucus respectively are: (1) Diplontic, Haplodiplontic (2) Haplodiplontic, Diplontic (3) Haplodiplontic, Haplontic (4) Haplontic, Diplontic

Comment:It is a factual question.  Students are  expected to study organism diversity not at generic level,  but only at class level .Students are expected to know the factual content of the concept such as Haplontic, Diplontic and Haplodiplontic.  They may not know what type of life cycles occur in Ectocarpus and Fucus  since students are not expected to know the biodiversity of Algae at generis level. Since the same question appears many a time in previous years question papers, it becomes a exam question many students may give the correct answer for the question.

The factual question needs to be converted in to a conceptual question. In Ectocarpus there is distinct alternation of generation where as in focus, plant is sporophyte, gametophyte is generation is represented only by  gametes,  From these factual information student may be asked to find out the corresponding concept terms to represent the life cycle of Ectocarpus and  Fucus
