APJ Abdul Kalam was an aerospace scientist who was born on 15th October 1931 in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu.

• He served as the 11th President of India, from 2002 to 2007.

• He came to be known as the "Missile Man of India" as he worked on the development of ballistic missile.

• He received 7 honorary doctorates from 40 universities.

• He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 1981, Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna in 1997.

In 2013, he was the recipient of the NSS Von Braun Award. He was also awarded with the Hoover Medal.

• Some of his literary works include Wings of Fire, Ignited Minds, Inspiring Thoughts, India 2020: A Vision for the new Millennium, etc.

• He died on 27th July 2015 in Shillong, Meghalaya.
