• APJ Abdul Kalam was an aerospace scientist who was born on 15th October 1931 in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu.
• He served as the 11th President of India, from 2002 to 2007.
• He came to be known as the "Missile Man of India" as he worked on the development of ballistic missile.
• He received 7 honorary doctorates from 40 universities.
• He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 1981, Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna in 1997.
• In 2013, he was the recipient of the NSS Von Braun Award. He was also awarded with the Hoover Medal.
