Light strikes a glass plate at an angle of incidence of 60o, part of the beam being reflected and part
refracted. It is observed that the reflected and refracted portions make an angle of 90o with each other.
What is the index of refraction of the glass?

Explanation:
According to question refracted ray makes 30° with the normal.(see figure)
By snells law
μ1×sin(i)=μ2×sin(r) (μ1 and μ2 are refractive index of air and glass respectively)
=> μ2 = sin(60°)/sin(30°). (since μ1 = 1 for air)
=> μ2 = √3
Therefore the refractive index of glass = √3
