But the Movement was gradually slow down and due to the following drawbacks. Khadi cloth was more expensive, less durable and expensive to maintain than mill made cloth. The poor could not afford to buy it and therefore could not boycott mill made cloth for long. Similarly boycott of institutions posed a problem

  • Khadi cloth was often more expensive that the mass produced mill cloths and poor people could not afford to buy it. So they could not boycott mill cloths for too long.
  • As the British institutions were boycotted, alternative Indian institutes had to be setup in it its place. These were slow to come up and were poorly managed.
  • Students and teachers started going back to Gvt. run schools and colleges.
  • Lawyers joined back to government courts
