Answer:

Given :-

  • A number is as much greater than 36 as is less than 86.

To Find :-

  • What are the number.

Solution :-

Let, the number be x

According to the question,

\sf x - 36 =\: 86 - x

\sf x + x =\: 86 + 36

\sf 2x =\: 122

\sf x =\: \dfrac{\cancel{122}}{\cancel{2}}

\sf\boxed{\bold{\red{x =\: 61}}}

\therefore The required number is 61.

\\

\sf\bold{\purple{VERIFICATION :-}}

\sf x - 36 =\: 86 - x

\sf 2x =\: 86 + 36

By putting x = 61 we get,

\sf 2 \times 61 =\: 122

\sf 122 =\: 122

LHS = RHS

Hence, Verified .

Solution -

In the above question, it is mentioned -

" A number is as much greater than 36 as It is less than 86 " .

Let us assume that this number is x .

" A number is as much greater than 36 " means we need to find x - 36.

" .. as it is less than 86 " means we need to find 86 - x .

They are equal .

Hence, we can form the following linear equation -

x - 36 = 86 - x

Transposing x to the LHS

>2x - 36 = 86

> 2x = 86 + 36

> 2x = 122

> x = 61

Thus , the required number is 61.

This is the required answer .
