Liquids have lower density as compared to solid . But ice floats on water . Find out why


saijyotsna: it is because an ice cube is not completely solid . it has full air filled in it . so the average density of the ice cube as a whole is less than the liquids.

ice have air particles in between the intermolecular spaces that's why ice floats on the water

bcoz the ice we see have some air spaced bubbles inside it...
this is why its density is less than that of liquid water
also the hydrogen bonding of water in liquid state makes it more denser...
