when ice is formed there are air pockets in it which lower the density of the ice than water. hence the ice floats

saimanish1: its because of the anamalous expansion of water when water freezes at 0-4degres celcius it expands instead of contraction which makes its density lower and it floats in water
sweety542: thanks

because Ice has a cage like structure due to hydrogen bonding so it's density is less than water that's why it floats on water..... hope it will help u .... plzz mark as brainlist

sweety542: i don't know
Shantanubhatt: yeah it is bu i think it is only in liquid form
saimanish1: anamalous expansion states that water expands at 0-4degrees celsius and hence its volume increases making its density decrease and it floats in water
Shantanubhatt: yeah but wate is liquid in that temperaure range
saimanish1: temp alone dosent determine the state if atmospheric pressure it less it can be a solid before its normal freezing poimt
saimanish1: point*
sweety542: thanks for the explaination
saimanish1: ur welcome
sweety542: bye guys!!
saimanish1: bye
