An agreement between Bengali Landlords and The East India Company. It identified the proprietor or Zamindar as the revenue payer of Land used for Agriculture under ‘Permanent settlement system’. It is a kind of Landlordism which was imposed on Orrisa, Bengal, Bihar, Coastal Andhra. The Land revenues were exorbitant and the Zamindars had to guard themselves against the deficiency in collection of rents.
