A war had snatched away the narrator’s mother from her. The narrator wanted to take back the belongings of her mother which her mother had given to Mrs. Dorling for safekeeping, before the war. She wanted to hold on to some of the things of her loving mother, as a sweet memory. So, she went to her native place, for the first time since the war, for that purpose. However, when she reached there she found that the streets and the places were bringing back her old memories of her dead mother. She did not want to remember those painful memories. Therefore, she reached the station without paying much attention to the things that was on her way.
