Early modes of transport that are not in use today:

• Palanquins: One of the ancient methods of transportation, also called as palkhis, was carried by men to carry royal members like kings and queens and other nobles. Palkhis are not in use now and can only be found in temples to carry deities and weddings.
• Horse carts or carriages: Also called tongas driven by horses were hugely popular in olden days but currently very rarely used.
• Human-driven rickshaws and cycle rickshaws: were quite popular then but now usage is very limited.
• Tram: Trams were one of the most popular transportation system used in metro cities like Delhi, Bombay, Chennai and Kolkata. Currently, trams are still in use only in Kolkata and they are not in use in other cities.
