• March 1919: Communists create their own International, known as the Comintern, distinct from the prewar Socialist Second International, to promote Communist revolution.

• November 1927: Stalin expels Trotsky from the Central Committee of the Soviet party.

• June 1935: The Comintern, responding to the growth of Fascism, approves Communist participation with Socalists, other leftists and moderates in anti‐Fascist “United” or “Popular” fronts.

• May 1943: In consideration of wartime alliance between Communists and Western Allies, Comintern is quietly dissolved.

• September 1947: Communist parties of the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Poland, Hungary, Rumania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Italy and France create a Communist Information Bureau, or Cominform, to consolidate and extend postwar gains under the direction of Moscow.
