Aerobic Respiration

  • Oxygen is present when this form of respiration takes place.
  • Gases are exchanged in this form of respiration.
  • It can be found in the cytoplasm and the mitochondria.
  • Glucose breaks down into carbon-di-oxide and water.
  • All organisms such as mammals have this type of respiration.

Anaerobic Respiration

  • Oxygen is absent when this form of respiration takes place.
  • Gases are not exchanged in this form of respiration.
  • It can be found only in the cytoplasm.
  • glucose breaks down into ethyl alcohol, carbon dioxide, and energy
  • Lower organisms such as bacteria and yeast use this type. In other organisms, it occurs during heavy activities

■ Anaerobic respiration

♤ 1. This process take place in absence of oxygen.

♤ 2. Incomplete breakdown of glucose take place.

♤ 3. End products are Ethanol, Carbon dioxide and Energy.

♤ 4. It occurs in yeast and sometimes in muscle cell of human being.

♤ 5. Less amount of energy is released during this process.
