ayaatirastogi20: The English East India Company secured a royal farman in 1717 AD by the Mughal Emperor granting the Company the freedom to export and import goods from and to Bengal without paying taxes and right to issue dastaks (passes) for the movement of such goods. The Company servants were also permitted to trade but were required to pay the same taxes as Indian merchants. This farman was a major cause of tension between the Company and the Nawabs because it fetched less revenue for Bengal.
