The Assam education act of 1926 was an important step in ensuring wide scale literacy in the state of Assam.

The act applied to the entirety of Assam and made primary education compulsory for all children between the ages of 6-11.

It was ruled that local authorities would pay 1/3rd towards this education cost of the young children.

Also, no fees would be charged from any of the students who are participating in this programme
