To overcome the air resistance the bodies of the birds are streamlined.
The skeleton of the bird is hollow to reduce weight. These bones are known as pneumatic bones and they are filled air to support flight.
Many bones like the bony tail of the early bird which are not necessary are lost over the period of evolution.
Toothed jaws of early birds have been replaced with a lightweight beak.
