Organic Farming holds a key towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals post Millennium Development Goals in general. However, the organic farming seems to be the only way forward looking at the negative effects of pesticides, herbicides, weedicides etc. All these chemicals have really caused tremendous loss to the pollinators, they have polluted the water bodies, they have caused so many health related issues to the people. The chemical fertilizers have also caused lot of problems to the fertility of the soil, because of their non scientific and non judicious use by the farmers. Usage of these chemical fertilizers require extensive irrigation which leads to the increase in the salinity of the soils and in turn fertility of the soil is also compromised.

So looking at the negative aspects of these chemicals, India and the World now are looking for a more sustainable farming practices which are more friendly to humans, nature and planet. In the sustainable agriculture, planet, human health and social development are considered important components. So organic farming will have far reaching effects not for the planet but also for the human health because the pesticide residues in the vegetables, fruits etc. have really caused many diseases such as cancer in many people.

So the promotion of organic agriculture will

provide for healthy foods,

  1. it will check the water pollution,
  2. it will arrest the degradation of the land,
  3. it will reclaim the fertility of the soil,
  4. it will save the planet from becoming a poison in near future.
  5. It will also reduce the pesticide triggered diseases.

Thanks

Explanation:

Organic farming is better for the environment.

Organic farming practices reduce pollution, conserve water, reduce soil erosion, increase soil fertility, and use less energy. Farming without pesticides is also better for nearby birds and animals as well as people who live close to farms.
