The Assam Primary Education Act was the first primary education act is Assam and was passed in 1926.

Its Provisions are as follows:

A.It extends to the entire of Assam.

B.The local authority has to submit the Resolution to the Government for consideration.

C.The local authority with two third of the members in a meeting may introduce compulsory primary education for children between 6-11 years of age.

D. Local authority shall provide one-third of the additional cost without dimnishing the current expenditure.

E.Poor children will be given free books and no fees will be charged.
