The Ahom people speak Assamese now; earlier they spoke in a dialect called Ahom. They practice Hinduism, but some are known to practice Theravada Buddhism and some Furalung, an ancient and distinct Indian religion, along with Hinduism. They are mongoloid in origin and have settled down in the Brahmaputra valley of Upper Assam.

Gonds are of dravidian origin, settled in central India. They are inhabitants of Maharashtra ( Vidarbha region), Chhatisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Telengana, Andhra Pradesh and western Odisha. They speak Gondi, Telugu, Marathi and Hindi. The Gonds practice an ancient tribal religion known as Gondi or Koya Punem.
